Madagascar is the world’s fourth largest island. It has many touristic facets; the south part of the country is one of them. You will discover the different sides of Madagascar, its history, the beautiful city Antsirabe, the typical landscape of the south and the Isalo one and especially the trip by train called FCE. The circuit “the great explorations of the South” promises you discovery. The guide will help you to make this trip unforgettable.
Exploration of the south part of Madagascar. The trip is an opportunity to encounter the local people. You will visit the three parts of the town on the first day. Overnight at the hotel
Day 2:Antananarivo – Antsirabe
We go to Antsirabe in the morning. Antsirabe is famous for its thermal
spring. Many workshops can be visited there.
Day 3:Antsirabe and the surrounding area
We visit the town and discover the daily life of the people. We visit as well the lake Tritriva. The lake and its history make the visit interesting.
Day 4:Antsirabe – Ambositra – Fianarantsoa
Ambositra is a small town located in the south and is famous for woodcarving. We will go to Fianarantsoa afterwards and will visit the upper town. Overnight at the hotel
Day 5:Fianarantsoa – Manakara
The journey by train from Fianarantsoa to Manakara is one of the highlight of the trip. The beautiful green landscape, the Mandriampotsy waterfall and the cliff of Andranovato beautify the tour.
The vendors entertain our journey at every station.
An excursion is organized on the pangalane channel in the morning. We will meet the fishermen and taste their products. Manakara is inhabited by the Antaimoro tribe whose ancestors are Arab.
Day 7: Manakara – Ranomafana
The trip to Ranomafana lets you enjoy the beautiful scenery of the south east part of Madagascar. Jackfruits and clove trees grows along the road. We stop at a typical Antemoro and Tanala village to see and their way of life
Day 8: Ranomafana
The visit of the Ranomafana national park is a must. This park is home to many endemic plants and animals. The golden bamboo lemur is found only here. It has also a thermal spring which attracts many local tourists.
Day 9:Ranomafana – Ambalavao-Ranohira
We make our way southwards after breakfast. The rice terraces shape the landscape, as far as the eye can see, and with the ocher color of the laterite. Before continuing for Ranohira, visit of the Anjà reserve which is located a few kilometers from the city of Ambalavao, this park is created by the villagers and managed by themselves. The reserve is one of the best places in Madagascar to observe to ring-tailed lemur.
Visit of the Isalo national park
Isalo is one of the most visited parks in Madagascar. Endemic plants and animals are found there such as the elephant foots, mother of a million and so on. The ring-tailed lemur can also be seen there.
Day 11: Ranohira – Tuléar – Anakao
We will see another landscape, wide savannah and we will see the first baobab. The Mahafaly tombs topped by Aloalo decorate the road. Transfert by canoe to Anakao.
You can relax after a long journey. Many activities can be done: visit of the village to see the fishermen, bathe, walk along the sea, excursion on Nosy Ve island.
Day 13:Anakao – Tuléar
Transert by boat to Tuléar. Visit of the city, the ethnographic museum and the shell market.
Day 14:Tuléar – Antananarivo
Flight to Tana and shopping for souvenirs
Transfert to the airport and you leave the red island
